Framed by the Light
Contrast in light and shadow plays a prominent role in my project Framed by the Light. I actively seek silhouetted figures who are framed by vivid light, and the light is then cloaked in deep shadows. The use of black and white and quality of light transforms the city into a world of mysterious forms; the human figure acting as an anchor to reality. This is a magical place full of contrast, lines and textures and I find Iām drawn to the darker corners of this realm which make the momentary glimpses of light all the more precious.
As this play of bright highlights lapped by shrouding dark continues, I notice a pattern beginning to form. The light pierces through in diagonal shafts whereas the dark envelops and wraps around it in predictable ways. Using digital collage for the last part of this series, I take a step back constructing webs of darkness punctuated by shapes of light and solitary figures.
