London: Still/Moving
I am often drawn to the bustle of London, with the multitude of tourists sightseeing and crowds of people commuting. However, in stark contrast, I have also noticed the stillness of some individuals including street performers and vendors. They appear frozen in time while everybody else flows around them. I envisaged juxtaposing these two elements from different images in one composite shot so the difference becomes apparent to a more casual observer.
The dialogue between people passing through, and those seemingly embedded in the framework of the city, is a strong relationship for me. I was aware that in making the images on a tripod I was for the moment quite similar to my stationary subjects, as others absorbed in their own activities moved past me. In this sense, I too was at one with the urban environment, melding into it largely unnoticed as the world passed me by.
