Tourism in London, And Me

Many of London's landmarks are iconic and I have become increasingly aware of the selfie culture surrounding them. Visitors to London understandably seem compelled to leave with some sort of memento of their stay. I wanted to document this act which is a kind of ritual involving tourists and the very recognisable hotspots. I used composites (multiple images combined) to highlight the multitude of people engaging in this activity.

The second part to this project included myself mimicking the positions and stances the tourists took up. I realised I felt like an outsider looking in while photographing for the first part of this project, despite being from London myself. Imitating the tourists' activities was a way of establishing a retrospective connection to their souvenir-making pursuit.
